Awareness, understanding and actions
Family Life participates in the local Indigenous Action Network for Frankston and Mornington Peninsula where we consult with elders and service partners. In doing so, we are able to grow our awareness and understanding, and inform our actions for strengthening relationships with indigenous families.
Family Life Aboriginal Advisory Committee (2012-2015)
The Committee was established by the Board of Family Life with the support of Auntie Caroline Briggs, senior Boonwurrung Elder and guide of Family Life in undertaking cultural competency training across the organisation provided by VACCA, (Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency Co) &
- Ensuring that all facilities operated by Family Life are both safe and welcoming to Aboriginal people.
- Guiding the agency in delivering services that are both relevant to the needs of Aboriginal people and are delivered in a manner consistent with Aboriginal cultural value.
We continue our commitment and learning guided by Aboriginal organisations and leaders.
Family Life’s Indigenous acknowledgement at the beginning of all official Family Life meetings:
‘Family Life, and all the individuals who make up our organisation respectfully acknowledge all Aboriginal people and their ancient and ongoing connections to culture and country.
In particular we wish to acknowledge the Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung-Wurundjeri people of the larger Kulin nation in whose ancestral lands Family Life provides services to the Melbourne Community.’
