Commemorating Dr Roger Riordan AM

By admin February 28, 2019

Family Life staff, volunteers and Community Bubs participants past and present paid respect to Family Life Patron, Dr Roger Riordan AM, at a small gathering at Keith Street Community House in Hampton East late last week.

Dr Riordan, who passed away on Thursday 2 January aged 85, had been a supporter of Family Life for over 15 years and Patron of Family Life since 2012.

Family Life CEO, Prof Jo Cavanagh, spoke at the event, highlighting the huge impact Roger’s contributions has had on families involved in the Community Bubs program.

Family Life is greatly saddened by the passing of our Patron and dear friend. Our strong association with Roger over the past 15 years has left a legacy that will continue to influence the most vulnerable members of our community.

His extraordinary support of our Community Bubs program has changed the lives of many and given support and hope to those who needed it most.

Community Bubs helps vulnerable parents build strong attachments with their infants, equipping them with the skills needed to ensure their babies thrive and develop in a safe and supportive home environment.

Past Community Bubs Program participants and staff also spoke at the event, thanking Roger for the impact his contribution had on their lives. Several making heartfelt and emotional statements:

I am in awe of this man, who would do something so meaningful for our community.

I met my best friends being a part of this group.

If I didn’t have this place, I don’t know where I would be.

Community Bubs made me realise I wasn’t on my own. Roger was a gorgeous soul, who didn’t care where you came from. He was our angel on this earth.

I have so many friends and fond memories from being here.

The event was attended by members of Roger’s family including his daughter-in-law, Jenny Riordan, who accepted a memorial photo-board and floral tributes to commemorate the occasion.

Jenny Riordan used the opportunity to reassure attendees and Family Life Staff of the Riordan family and Cybec Foundation’s ongoing support of the Community Bubs Program.

Without contributions from Roger, the Cybec Foundation and other community members like them, Family Life would not be able to meet the needs of those who so greatly need it,” Prof Cavanagh said.

We offer our sincere and deepest condolences to Roger’s family. His contribution will not be forgotten.
