Earlier this month we celebrated the Grand Opening of not one, but two of our Community Op Shops in both Beaumaris and Mount Eliza.
Our Beaumaris Grand Opening Event celebrated the return to the Beaumaris community after our humble beginnings 54 years ago. Did you know, Family Life’s first “home” was rented professional rooms owned by Mrs. Marion Wilson in Reserve Road, Beaumaris. Rooms were painted and fitted by volunteer labour and the ongoing cleaning and maintenance work was done by volunteers too. Southern Family Life operated from these rooms, servicing the Bayside community for many years, -until in 1978 Federal government funding allowed us to purchase permanent offices on Bluff Road, and building was completed in 1980 (where we are still located today!).
Our 70s themed Grand Opening was a hoot; shoppers and guests had the chance to rummage through racks while listening to the likes of Elton John and Fleetwood Mac over the speakers, had amazing catering from the amazing local Kuche and celebrated alongside our friends from local council and other partnering organisations. A special thank you to Zoe Daniel MP and Mayor Cr Fiona Stitfold for officiating the event and cutting our signature orange ribbon!
A week later, we headed down to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula to celebrate the opening of our 10th Community Op Shop in sunny Mount Eliza! We are proud to have opened our third Op Shop in the Mornington Peninsula region over the last 2 years. Guests were greeted by our ‘live mannequin’ and Family Life volunteer, Meredith, and danced the night away to music by amazing an local band. Thank you to everyone who came down and made it an afternoon to remember! A special thank you to Mayor Cr Simon Brooks for officiating the event!
